Let’s face it – women don’t want to look their age. We all want to find the fountain of youth. We spend billions of dollars each and every year on the latest and supposedly greatest eye creams, foundations, mineral concoctions, lotions and what-nots that are intended to keep our skin looking and feeling just like it did when we were younger.
Of course, there are skin care products out there that can improve the look of fine lines and wrinkles. They can lift up saggy spots, brighten the brown areas and lighten the dark circles under the eyes. These miracle items can work their magic within months, weeks or even days in some cases.
However, there is something to be said about aging gracefully without unnecessary plastic surgery. Remember we earn our ‘laugh lines’ and ‘wrinkles’ by living life well. In this article, we discuss some skin care and makeup tricks that will help you look and feel younger without going under the knife.
- Exfoliate your skin regularly. Lifting off the dead skin cells and rejuvenating your face will give you a fresher (read: more youthful) appearance.
- Use olive oil in your food and on your skin. Olive oil – preferably the cold pressed type – should be dabbed into the face several times per week. It’s full of good fats and all that. It’ll help keep your skin supple, soft and beautiful. The substance is also an anti-inflammatory so it keeps the whole body healthy which is an added bonus!
- Focus attention on a large eye and a colorful (and full) lip. This will detract attention from wrinkles and such.
- Use concealer to brighten and lighten the under-eye area. For example, pair a pink or peach-toned corrective concealer with a yellow-toned one. Apply the concealer close to the lashes as well as to the inner corner of the eye.
- Put blush high on the apples of your cheeks so your face will look ‘lifted’.
- Moisturize every morning. It’ll make you look fresher when you don’t wear make-up and even better when you do. Make it part of your routine (or else).
- Use powder judiciously. Too much and it can make lines too prominent. A soft dusting of powder will help set your makeup and absorb shine. Use a brush rather than a puff to get the right setting. Make sure to avoid the fine lines around your eyes. There’s no need to draw attention to them.
- Smudge your eyeliner. It’s okay to blur the lines as you get older. Smudging is a bit kinder to the area and will look less severe and will detract from the crinkles and wrinkles around the eyes.
- Keep lip colors lighter. That dark red looked great when you were 20, but it’s not so cool when you’re 50. Lighten up as you age. Dark colors look too harsh and can accentuate age spots and other imperfections.
- Get enough sleep. Eating right, sleeping enough and getting enough exercise are the three best things you can do for your skin at any age!
- Keep your skin hydrated by drinking a lot of water…at least 64 oz. per day will help you stay ‘afloat’!
- Use proper sunscreen and keep out of the sun especially during the peak times of day. The sun’s rays, in addition to being a leading cause of skin cancer, can be terribly aging.
